Johanna Long Dominates Lee Fields Memorial

Second Half Mechanical Problems Relegate Long to Fifth
“It felt really good to be running in the Pro Late Model class again and it was cool to lead the race like we did,” said Long.  “The lower control arm broke and we ended up sliding off the track on the last lap.  We still got fifth and I think we have a good setup for the next time we come back.”

Long led in the first half of the race and with the aid of a lap car re-took the lead and led up until about 35 laps to go.  From there she fell back to second and was running third when the control arm broke, sending her off the track with two turns to go.

“It was disappointing to have that type of a finish, but we were leading and we had a good car all weekend,” added Long.

Long’s next race will be a homecoming affair as she will run the final two races of the Gulf Coast Championship Series at Five Flags Speedway on Friday, September 24th and at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday, September 25th.

For the first 70 laps of the Lee Fields Memorial 150 at Mobile International Speedway (AL), it looked like Johanna Long was well on her way to victory.  Long, who won the season finale at Mobile last season to clinch the Gulf Coast Championship series, was also a former winner of the season’s biggest event at Mobile.  Her quest for a second win went away in the late stages with some tire issues and then mechanical problems.  She ended up fifth when the checkered flag flew.
